The Quake 3 Arena Alias Tracker is a community powered database of Quake 3 Arena player aliases. It was developed as a spare time project for the authour and also to help bust those unscrupulous characters who use their online anonymity to annoy others.
This site allows you to search a database of aliases and GUIDs. You can search by GUID or by alias. Registered users can help out the project by submitting GUIDs and aliases to the database. Registration is a simple process and can be completed by anyone with a valid email address.
I've made a few changes to the site mainly on the search and submit pages. These changes will only be apparent when you are logged in as they are for use by registered users. If you aren't already registered you can do so on the registration page.
The search has been changed and now allows logged in users to confine their search results to entries they submitted to the database. Which will result in 100% reliable search results when this option is selected.
The submission page has been also been changed and will now display other known aliases for entries when you add them to the database. These are grouped into other aliases you have submitted and other aliases anyone has submitted.
The database is building up at a slow but steady pace. My thanks go out to all who are helping :)
The site has been up for a couple of weeks now and I've just got around to posting it on a few different forums. Being the internet there has been the expected amount of trolling and negative feedback, but there has also been positive feedback as well and an increasing number of people are making submissions to the database :)
An issue that several of the negative people addressed was the fact that anyone can enter any GUID and alias into the database, thus allowing for punks to put in bogus entries. This occured to me long before I even started building this site and while there is no way to prevent this, there are a few methods the site will employ to try and minimise the use and effect of this practise:
It should also be noted that database entries are stored along with the ID of the submitter, so if a user is identified as making bogus submissions it will be a very simple task to remove all of their entries.
